“Some say I’m a demon some call me a star, put that together, I’m
TheMonster”, that’s my favourite line in Gemony’s track Agbero toh
Toosh. When I first heard the track I was like ‘WOW’, I can’t define
what my wow ment but all I could just say was wow. For starters the
track is playful in the sense that the punch lines are not hardcore
but they are still serious and I’m a sucker for tracks that tell a
story. In most Nigerian songs or raps they don’t tell a story, all
they do is just spit out rhymes and curse but it’s safe to say that
the rapper Gemony tells a tale, or more like he’s driving at a point
which is ‘I might not be there yet but I’m on my way’. From the song
you can depict that he’s trying to say he’s still in the gutter but
he’s not like the rest and way better off. You can’t help but laugh
when you listen to the track because it is packed with a whole lot of
comedic punchlines which gives the song an extra umph. What trips me
about the song is the fact that he cut them into parts, you know the
way Justin Timberlake does his songs where it’s like two songs
enrolled into one, well Gemony did the same and he so pulled it off.
In the first part of the song he gave us a taste of the topic and
basically danced around it by entertaining us with comedic verses but
in the second part of the song he went straight to the point and
killed it( in a good way of course) and told his undiluted story.
Talking about the beat and mix well the sound wasn’t HD but all in all
it was quite good and the producer tried, when hearing the beat one
gets a military vibe and the violin effect gives it a classical
visage. The sound quality of the song could be better and the pic art
of the song could also use some tweaking. Over ten I’ll give the song
an eight. Y’all should watch out for Gemony, he’s one of the few
uncelebrated rappers who deserve to be in the limelight and with all
indication he’s heading for the stars. His style isn’t commercial but
more of the ‘hood’ type of rap where as he inculcates both Yoruba and
igbo into his verses thus carrying everyone along. If you think Agbero
toh toosh is awesome then you should listen to his other track
“Hustle”, that is the maddest track I’ve heard this year.
